Students in Mrs. Payne’s British Literature classes were getting in the holiday spirit by sending Christmas cards to those in need through the Angel Card Project. They helped to bring joy to those less fortunate while practicing and refining basic skills such as writing etiquette and properly addressing mail.

Gordon County Schools proudly recognizes and celebrates the achievements of its four extraordinary 2024-2025 Georgia REACH Scholars: Jasmine Castillo, Sarai Moran Anguiano, Naythan Alvarez, and Wildon Garcia-Corado. These remarkable students were honored today for their commitment to academic excellence and their determination to build a brighter future. The REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Georgia Scholarship Program is a needs-based mentorship and scholarship initiative designed to ensure that academically promising students have the support they need to succeed in college and beyond. By becoming REACH Scholars, students pledge to uphold high academic standards, maintain excellent behavior, and work closely with mentors and graduation coaches as they prepare for post-secondary education. Upon completing the program, each scholar receives a scholarship to help make their college dreams a reality. The ceremony also recognized the vital role families, educators, and mentors play in shaping the future of these young leaders. Graduation coaches Jamey Angland from Gordon Central High School and Judy Craig from Sonoraville High School will work closely with the scholars, guiding them through this transformative journey throughout high school. Congratulations to Jasmine, Sarai, Naythan, and Wildon on this incredible achievement. We are confident that their dedication, supported by the REACH program and our community, will lead them to a future filled with limitless possibilities.

Gordon Central High School held its annual Apply to College Day on Thursday, November 21. A total of 86 seniors participated. There were 191 applications started and 154 submitted. Nobody knows where the “Educational Road” will end for these students, but we all will be able to look back at where it began. Mr. Jamey Angland coordinated the event here at Gordon Central and would like to thank the following people: Anthoni McDaniel (Dalton State College), Johna Jenkins (Georgia Northwestern Technical College), Julia Rodriguez (Georgia Highlands), Cooper Hunt (Shorter University), Alondra Villarreal (Valdosta State University and Sket Angland (Gordon County Central Office) - Thanks for coming to help our seniors! On Thursday, Nov. 21, SOS hosted a dress up day for students and staff! Suggested attire was professional wear for the top half and sweats/dress down on the bottom half...so think a Zoom meeting?! A table was set up in the mall area for students to complete Thank You cards for adult mentors in their lives. The students also had BlowPops at the table to create notes of gratitude to share with their friends. #TogetherGCHS
