This past Saturday the Ashworth and Gordon Central Tennis teams hosted a joint car show fundraiser. The event was a great success with over 40+ cars showing up and registering for the event. We had multiple students even win awards, such as Eli Temple, Bella and Zoey Hardin, and Cheyanne Wilson. The tennis teams plan to do this fundraiser again next year and would like to thank all who helped spread the word and to all the ones who showed up and participated as well.

School social workers supported Sources of Strength today by preparing hundreds of eggs for the students to find. GC students looked high and low and enjoyed the competition of finding a sweet treat!

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
We are delighted to share that one of our Gordon Central Warriors, Alberto Garcia-Melchor, has placed 2nd in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Georgia's 11th Congressional district. Congratulations Alberto!

Gordon Central High School is proud to announce the return of one of its own, Ms. Sheryl Caycho, as the new Choral Director for the 2025-2026 school year. A proud alumna and lifelong Warrior, Ms. Caycho brings a wealth of talent, experience, and heart back to her alma mater.
Raised in Calhoun, Georgia, Ms. Caycho is a true product of the Warrior Nation. As a student at Gordon Central, she was a standout member of the Gordon Central Performing Arts Program, earning state titles in both the Literary Trio and One Act competitions. She held leading roles in numerous musical productions and participated in a wide range of ensembles, including Chorale, Tonal Combustion, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, spring musicals, and the literary team.
Ms. Caycho went on to earn a Bachelor of Music Education from Berry College and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Georgia Southern University. Her teaching experience includes a student teaching role at Ashworth Middle School, where she supported choral and musical theatre programs. She currently serves as Coordinator for the Bonner Scholars Program at Berry College, mentoring student leaders in service and academic excellence.
Ms. Caycho will return home to step into the role currently held by her mentor, Dr. Kim Watters, ready to lead the next generation of performers at Gordon Central in both choral activities and musical theater. “It’s truly an honor to return to the place that first sparked my love for performing arts,” said Ms. Caycho. “This program shaped me into the person and educator I am today. I’m beyond excited to give back to the students and community that gave so much to me, and to carry forward the legacy of excellence that Dr. Watters built.”
Dr. Amy Parker, Principal of Gordon Central High School, shared her enthusiasm about the appointment. “We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Caycho back to the Warrior Nation. As an alumna and former performing arts student, she understands both the heart and the high standards of our program. We are confident in her ability to carry on the tradition of excellence that has been built at Gordon Central.”
Gordon Central is excited for what lies ahead as Ms. Caycho leads the next chapter of the school's acclaimed performing arts program.
Ms. Caycho will be on campus April 21st to meet students and discuss plans for the upcoming school year. She will also be available from 4:00-5:30 that afternoon for any parents or community supporters who would like to drop in to wish her well.

Congratulations to the following GCHS Seniors on their graduation from the 2024-2025 Gordon County Youth Leadership Program: Sadie Holmes, Madelyn Goble, Amy Lopez, Katerine Hernandez, and Evan Wood. (Not pictured: Aileen Reyes) Chosen from students in all four area high schools, these seniors completed a year-long program sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce that develops leadership skills, teaches them about the workings of our state and local governments, and shows them how they can better serve their community. Way to go, Warriors!

It's National Paraprofessional Day and we would like to thank our paraprofessionals at GCHS for all they do each and every day to support our students and teachers! You go above and beyond to help create a positive atmosphere that encourages learning and growth.
