We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Shelly Queen to the Tolbert Elementary family! Mrs. Queen is delighted to teach first grade at Tolbert Elementary. With 28 years of teaching experience and an Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction, she brings a strong background in math and literacy to the classroom. Married for 30 years, Shelly has raised two wonderful children and enjoys the company of Millee, a lovable 10-year-old dog who brings joy to their family. In her leisure time, Shelly enjoys camping, spending time with family and friends, and reading. She is looking forward to a fantastic school year ahead!

We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Joni Garrett to the Tolbert Elementary family! Originally from Chattanooga, TN, Mrs. Garrett brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her role. She holds a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and recently earned her master's degree in Education from Piedmont University. Mrs. Garrett is dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential and encourages them to embrace challenges in their learning journey. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs. Her commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment promises to make a lasting impact on her second-grade students at Tolbert Elementary.

We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Katie Hartel to the Tolbert Elementary family! Ms. Hartel brings over five years of experience teaching music and theatre to children through local programs. This year, she begins her journey as an elementary school music teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre and a Minor in Dance. Ms. Hartel is dedicated to education and plans to pursue a Master’s in Education in 2025. Outside of school, Ms. Hartel enjoys reading, crocheting, acting in plays and musicals, spending time with her family, and snuggling with her dog, Petey. She is eager to meet all her students and looks forward to the exciting year ahead!

Mrs. Aycock recently relocated to the Calhoun area with her husband of 23 years, two college-aged children, and their adorable tiny dog. Gordon County Schools is introducing My Ride K-12, a parent communication app, to its transportation operations. My Ride K-12 will be integrated with our transportation software for families to access estimated times of arrival or departure for buses. My Ride K-12 is designed so you can access your student’s bus schedules efficiently. GPS technology on the bus works with the district’s software to automatically calculate the timing of a bus route to give you the most accurate ETAs with real-time updates and route changes. My Ride K-12 is now available for you to download on your Apple or Android mobile device. Our flyer provides step-by-step registration instructions, and you can access the app to download in a variety of ways. With 36 years of teaching experience, including 29 years in Alabama, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. Lynn and her husband, Steve, recently relocated to the area and have been captivated by the stunning sunsets every evening. Lynn holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education, as well as certification in Special Education. Her professional journey includes significant roles such as classroom teacher, literacy coach, and interventionist, demonstrating a deep commitment to enhancing educational outcomes. Her diverse background enriches our school community and aligns perfectly with our commitment to excellence. Mrs. Edwards holds a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, a master's degree in Teacher Leadership, and endorsements in ESOL, Reading, and Teacher Leadership. Currently pursuing her media specialist certification, she anticipates completion in the fall, further enhancing her ability to support our school's learning environment. Beyond her impressive professional achievements, Mrs. Edwards cherishes spending quality time with her husband, Mike, and their son, Oliver. We're thrilled to welcome back Mrs. Theresa Spence to our Tolbert Family! Theresa Spence returns to Tolbert Elementary with great enthusiasm, marking her 24th year in education. Having previously spent 13 years at Tolbert, she rejoins the school community after valuable experiences at Georgia Cyber Academy and Murray County Schools. Her husband Josh, a park ranger at Carters Lake, and their son Seth, who is preparing for his senior year, complete her supportive family. Gordon County Schools Summer Enrollment Information: Please review the flyer to know where to go for summer enrollment at Gordon County Schools. Enrollment opens June 18th and ends July 11th. Visit the feeder school's registration location Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Prior to arriving, please visit https://gordoncountyschoolsga.sites.thrillshare.com/page/student-enrollment to access, print, and fill out the registration packet in its entirety. Packets are available at each location if you are unable to pre-register.
