Belwood Elementary 1st graders are loving the new playground! It's so important for students to have time to play and be active during the school day, and we appreciate our BES teachers for providing safe and monitored recess. #TogetherWePlay #TogetherBES #TogetherGCS

Ms. Pierce's kindergarten class earned a picnic lunch yesterday. She said, "today was my favorite day with my kids! Sitting at the round tables outside, I was able to get to know more about my kids, their family, and of course, the fair!"
Belwood recognizes the value of making connections and building those relationships with our students. Thank you Ms. Boo for investing so much into your students!

Join us for a day of remembrance.
The nation changed forever on September 11, 2001. Many Americans remember a country before and a country after, and for many young Americans, only a country after. Terrorist attacks causing tragic loss of life at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in sight of the nation’s capital, and a quiet field in southern Pennsylvania.
It's a day some of us will never forget!

Belwood Elementary received our first supplemental food delivery from the Chattanooga Food Bank today. This is in addition to the food donations we collect from unopened food during breakfast and lunch every day.
Belwood is blessed to have leaders who haven't forgotten how to roll up their sleeves and get into the nitty-gritty of unpacking food boxes and stocking the shelves of our Helping Hands Ending Hunger food panty.
We are all in this TOGETHER!
If you would like more information on how you can volunteer to help or how you can get on the list to receive a food bag on Fridays, please contact Ms. Holt at monicaholt@gcbe.org or Ms. Bateman at dbateman@gcbe.org. Or send us a dojo message.

Attendance Awareness Month – September 2024
Help Your Child Succeed in School:
Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early
DID YOU KNOW?
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help
children catch up.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit
in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important.
Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.

Don't forget the FREE Family Fun Day and Kid's race on Sunday, September 22!! Please read below:
We are excited to announce the changes to the Kid's portion of the Annual Unity Run. This year, the Kid's Race, sponsored by AGC Pediatrics, will be on Sunday, September 22, at Gordon Central High School. We will partner with the Gordon Prevention Initiative to provide a FREE Family Fun Day that will include several different races, event t-shirts, fun inflatables, food, and prizes.
The races will be for kids up to 12 years old. We will also reach out to churches and surrounding counties to encourage participation. I have attached the flyer with the QR Code for easy registration, or here is the website link;
https://www.gordoncountyunitedway.org/kidsrun
We are requiring registration for race participation so we can order the correct number of shirts, obtain the parental participation agreement, and prepare enough food for the event.

September Menus and Food Fun Facts:
If your child brings lunch from home, but they get to school and decide they would like the hot meal provided by the lunchroom, they can get a lunch tray for free and eat it as well as their food from home.
Our lunch room also provides "lunch pals" which is a little extra bag of food like crackers and a cheese stick that students can get in addition to their lunch. All for free.
