🚨🚨INCLEMENT WEATHER ALERT🚨🚨 Gordon County Schools officials, in collaboration with local safety officials, are closely monitoring weather conditions expected for this afternoon, January 12th, and will continue to do so throughout the day. Due to safety concerns from the severe threat of inclement weather, we stand ready to delay today’s dismissal to allow students to remain in a safe location rather than on the road in a car or school bus. Should an official change of schedule (delay, closing, etc.) be warranted, we will notify staff and families via our website, all social media handles, mass notification system and share information with local media outlets. As the forecast is calling for extremely heavy rain and windy conditions, we would like to emphasize the need for everyone to remain weather aware and cautious during today’s storms.

FIRE HYDRANT REDESIGN CONTEST: Fourth and fifth grade students across the Gordon County Schools system recently had the opportunity to participate in a fire hydrant redesign coloring contest, hosted by Suzanne Roberts and the Calhoun Downtown Development Authority. In each of our local elementary schools, students were given the creative freedom to design a fire hydrant! After receiving a ton of entries, a winner was selected at each GCS elementary school. Each of the six designs will be painted onto fire hydrants in downtown Calhoun by local student artists from Gordon Central High and Sonoraville High. Thank you to Ms. Suzanne Roberts and the Downtown Development Authority for providing this opportunity for our students!! Our winner was Kathryn King. We’re so proud of her. #GoCoSchools #GETGCS #OneBIGFamily

PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK: Encourage creative problem-solving with your children. Problem-solving is the basis of good mathematical thinking, and the problems don't have to involve numbers. Ask questions like, "How many different ways are there to walk to school?" or "How many different ways can I measure flour to get half a cup?" Try to come up with more than one solution for everyday problems. Visit www.gcbe.org/pfe to learn more about GCS Parent & Family Engagement today. #GoCoSchools #GETGCS #OneBIGFamily
