Congratulations to Red Bud Middle School's Teacher and Staff Member of the Month, Ms. Carrie Parish and Mrs. Rachel Carter! Ms. Parish has started our STEM lab at RBMS that the students love. She sponsors the Academic team and also helps with 4-H. She assists the chorus director during the musical production, as well as heads up the concession stand volunteers during basketball season. Carrie is a team player and very creative when it comes to the connections teachers and dress up days!! Mrs. Carter does a wonderful job helping staff and students with iPads and general technology issues. Beginning with organizing the daily announcements to seeing students and teachers all day long, Mrs. Carter never seems overwhelmed to help others in a timely manner.

Congratulations to REACH Georgia Scholar from Red Bud Middle School, Alexandra Reyes! Alexandra recently signed a pledge to complete the state-wide scholarship program, which would entitle her to $10,000 in college scholarship funds upon graduation of high school. Students that are nominated, complete an application process including academic and community references as well as an interview with a panel of business and community leaders. REACH Georgia is more than just a scholarship. It is a multi-step approach designed to fully support students and increase their chances for success in the following ways: • Financial support - $2500 per year for up to 4 years. • Student Commitment: REACH Scholars agree to maintain a 2.5 HOPE GPA, remain crime, drug, and behavior issue free, and meet with a volunteer mentor and academic coach until graduation. • Guardian Commitment: Along with their Scholar, REACH guardians agree to support and encourage their student to develop positive relationships with teachers, mentors, counselors, & academic coaches, attend REACH sponsored meetings, and continually communicate with school personnel to ensure their student is on the path to high school graduation. • Mentor Commitment: REACH Scholars will be paired with a caring adult mentor trained to monitor and support the student. • Academic Coach Commitment: Each Scholar will also be paired with an academic coach who will monitor the student’s behavior, grades, and weekly attendance to ensure the student is on track to graduation and continues to meet program requirements. • Continuation of Academic and Social Support: REACH Georgia also ensures Scholars are equipped with the resources needed to successfully transition and complete their postsecondary degree. In partnership with post-secondary institutions, REACH Georgia will provide continuous support throughout their degree or certificate attainment.

Congratulations to the Teacher and Staff Member of the month, Mr. Ian Robbins and Mrs. Heather Jarvis! Mr. Robbins works hard to find ways to reach all his students and is a major team player. He helps coach two sports, took the lead for the 8th grade’s Junior Achievement implementation, assists all the 8th grade teachers in preparing for the lessons, and works very hard to assist his content-area colleagues in preparing lessons, tests, and activities for Georgia History. This is only Mr. Robbins's third year at RBMS but works and teaches as if he has been doing this for a lifetime. Mrs. Jarvis is one of the first adults our students encounter every morning as they walk into the school building. She greets everyone with a smile, asks how they are and encourages them to get something for breakfast from her cart. She is the reason some of our students have a good day. They know they are safe and welcome when they walk in the building and that their physical needs are being met through the nutrition station. She really cares for each of our students.

Red Bud Middle 8th grade GA History students were recently treated to an investigative lesson on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. They were shown primary sources, such as journal entries and court interviews that dealt with events leading up to and the days following the assassination. Students were also introduced to the many suspects involved in the conspiracy, heard the evidence against them and, before being told the actual outcome of the trial, had to determine whether the suspects were innocent or guilty. Students were very interested in this highly engaging lesson.
