Ms. Abernathy's 6th-grade ELA honors students recently completed a creative and reflective project centered on a novel of their choice. See some of their projects here: https://5il.co/30r0h Each student selected and read a book, then illustrated a meaningful scene, theme, or symbol that captured the essence of their reading experience. Around their artwork, students added 10 impactful quotes—some that resonated with the book’s characters and others that personally spoke to them. Finally, students presented their projects, sharing insights on how the story’s themes connected to their own lives and illustrating their deep engagement with the text.

12 days of Christmas
Congratulations to Ashworth Middle School, Red Bud Middle School, and Gordon Central High School for their exceptional achievements in mathematics, earning them the designation of Math Leader schools for the 2023-2024 school year. Each school’s recognition reflects its commitment to student growth, achievement, and preparation for future success under the new K-12 Mathematics Standards. Ashworth Middle School has been named a High School Outstanding Achievement Math Leader for demonstrating excellence in mathematics for 8th grade students taking high school Algebra 1. This recognition reflects the school's high percentage of students performing at the Proficient Learner level or above, underscoring Ashworth’s commitment to numeracy and academic achievement. Red Bud Middle School has received dual honors as both an 8th Grade Gateway Growth and High School Outstanding Achievement Math Leader for 8th grade students taking high school Algebra 1. This distinction highlights Red Bud’s exceptional growth in eighth-grade mathematics, a pivotal milestone for students, alongside its high levels of student achievement. The school’s commitment to advancing students’ math skills in these critical grades exemplifies the dedication of its teachers and students. Gordon Central High School has been recognized as a Growth Leader for its noteworthy improvement in mathematics achievement among high school students, as measured by the Algebra: Concepts and Connections End-of-Course (EOC) assessment. This growth distinction celebrates the school’s focus on ensuring all students progress in their numeracy skills, regardless of their starting points. The Math Leader Awards criteria for 2023-2024 acknowledge schools that have increased the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above. The awards emphasize the significance of numeracy in fifth and eighth grades and require greater growth from schools with lower initial achievement levels. The awards were given at elementary and middle school levels, with high school awards based on the Algebra EOC state test. State School Superintendent Richard Woods extended his congratulations to these pioneering Math Leader schools, commending their collective efforts. “The skill of numeracy is an essential one, both as students progress through their K-12 education and in their futures. These schools and their educators, students, families, and communities have worked hard to implement the new K-12 Mathematics Standards and prepare all students for life. I commend them on their outstanding work.” This recognition celebrates the schools’ focus on enhancing students' numeracy skills and ensuring academic success across all levels. Congratulations to Ashworth Middle School, Red Bud Middle School, and Gordon Central High School.
