SPLOST has made such a huge difference in Gordon County Schools! We have been able to complete many project upgrades and improvements across the district. Here are some of the improvements our district has made. Our Transportation Department continues to expand its fleet of propane-powered buses! Not only are these buses environmentally friendly, but they are also saving the district money thanks to available rebates that help reduce costs. Propane buses produce fewer emissions, leading to cleaner air for our students and community, all while cutting down on fuel expenses.

GORDON COUNTY, GA - Gordon County Schools is thrilled to announce an exceptional graduation rate for the Class of 2024, with an impressive 96.8% of students earning their diplomas within four years of entering high school. Sonoraville High School reported a graduation rate of 97.4%, and Gordon Central High School reported a graduation rate of 95.9%. Gordon County Schools' graduation rate significantly surpasses the State of Georgia's Class of 2024 average of 85.4% by an impressive margin of 11.4 percentage points. This milestone is based on the most recent report released by the Georgia Department of Education, in compliance with federal law, which calculates graduation rates using a four-year cohort method.  The four-year cohort method follows a student cohort from the start of ninth grade, adjusting for transfers in and out over the following three years. The graduation rate is then determined by the number of students who successfully graduate with a regular high school diploma, divided by the total number of students who constituted the adjusted cohort for the graduating class. Over the last decade, Gordon County Schools has exhibited an extraordinary increase in graduation rates. Superintendent Alice Mashburn praised the community’s collaborative effort, stating, "The success of the Class of 2024 reflects the hard work of our teachers, staff, parents, and community partners. This achievement goes beyond diplomas—it’s a shared victory for our whole community, showing our dedication to student success. Together, we will keep inspiring and supporting all our students as they move forward." Gordon County Schools takes immense pride in its continued dedication to academic excellence, fostering an environment where students are empowered to reach their full potential, exemplified by the exceptional graduation rates achieved.

Today, we had the honor of hosting Georgia Senator Chuck Payne (District 54) at Sonoraville Elementary during Georgia Pre-K Week! Senator Payne spent time with our youngest learners, sharing the importance of reading and getting an education. Our Pre-K students loved hearing Senator Payne read two books: Malcolm Mitchell's "A Magnificent Field Trip to the Governor's Mansion" and the Sesame Street classic, "The Monster at the End of This Book." They were laughing at the funny voices and had a great time. We appreciate Bright from the Start Pre-K Specialist Jae Boyd for being a guest listener today. When Senator Payne finished reading, he gave all the students a big hug and shared positive words about their futures when they work hard and strive to be good readers. We are so grateful for Senator Payne’s dedication to fostering a love of reading in our students. His visit was a reminder of the lasting impact a good book and an inspiring role model can have on a child's education. Thank you, Senator Payne, for your support of our students and their futures! #TogetherWeLearn #TogetherGCS #GordonCountySchools

Last week, Sonoraville High School teacher Katie Farley and district Educational Diagnostician Natasha Hall took students from both high schools on a tour of the GNTC Floyd campus through the High School High Tech program. They were able to explore these program areas: healthcare, welding, cosmetology, auto collision repair, instrumentation and controls, and auto fundamentals. This looked like an extremely informative and interactive tour, and we appreciate these educators giving students opportunities to explore future potential careers. #TogetherWeLearn #TogetherGCS #GordonCountySchools
