In an effort to build excitement around the teaching profession and encourage students to pursue a career in education, Gordon Central High School participated in Georgia’s Future Educators Signing Day, a statewide initiative sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education, on May 7, 2024. The event celebrated 5 graduating seniors from the class of 2024 who have made the decision to pursue a career in education.

Ms. Maci Mills, a teacher at Gordon Central High School, was one of the guest speakers at the event. She shared the excitement and nervousness of her first year teaching, encouraging the seniors that they will make a difference in education.
Gordon County Schools Superintendent Mrs. Alice Mashburn spoke to these future educators about the life-changing impact on their community they will make as educators. She encouraged them about the power of teaching, sharing Nelson Mandela's quote: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
The Gordon Central High School Teaching as a Profession instructor, Mrs. Kodi Albright, is in her first year teaching this pathway program at GCHS. She spoke about how proud she was of these soon-to-be graduates for accepting the call to education and signing their commitments to this career field.
Georgia Future Educators Signing Day, held each year during Teacher Appreciation Week, is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education’s Division of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education in partnership with the Georgia Early Childhood Education Foundation (GECEF) and Georgia’s colleges and universities.
“The most important thing we can do, as we work to prepare all students for life, is recruit our best and brightest to become teachers – and make it viable for them to stay,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “Through Georgia Future Educators Signing Day, we recognize the high-school students who are answering the call to become educators and make a lasting difference for our state. I commend these students and look forward to the impact they will make in the classroom!”
