Tolbert Elementary teachers participated in professional learning from the Ron Clark Academy to implement a House System for its upper grade students. They celebrated the end of February with their 3rd and 4th grade Houses to find out who won House of the Month.
The RCA House System aims to create a powerful and positive school climate that celebrates students' efforts and positivity. This point system that acknowledges the great things Tolbert students are doing in class helps build character, empower academic excellence, foster school spirit, and promotes a culture of belonging for all.
Each House represents different qualities and characteristics that highlight the whole child. The students from each House celebrates those specific qualities, but the goal is for all students to be well-rounded and representative of each category. The Four Houses are: Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, and Reveur. Houses have thematic colors, animals, symbols, and chants representative of their qualities.
Altruismo represents helping others, Amistad represents friendship, Isibindi represents courage, and Reveur represents dreamers.
Students have been earning points all year through acts of kindness, good behavior, hard work, and supporting one another. At February's celebration, students spoke about their Houses and welcomed administrators and central office personnel into their respective groups. Superintendent Alice Mashburn and Assistant Superintendent Justin Timms were among those who participated in House cheers and school spirit.
The House with the most points are declared the winners each month, and February belongs to House Isibindi. Congratulations to all of these wonderful students for showing school spirit and supporting one another. The teachers and staff who help make this meaningful have done such a great job, and it was evident in how excited and happy the students were to congratulate one another.
Congratulations House Isibindi and great job Tolbert Elementary!
