Dr. Kim Watters, choral director at Gordon Central High School, was recently selected as the state award recipient for Outstanding Music Educator from the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
A total of 56 individuals were selected to receive Outstanding Performing Arts Educator Awards from the NFHS, including 7 section recipients and 15 state winners. These awards have been presented since 1988 and acknowledge excellence in teaching and success both in and out of the classroom.
In their press release, GHSA said of Dr. Watters: "Dr. Kimberly Watters has dedicated an extensive 36-year teaching career to the Gordon County School System in Georgia. Throughout her tenure, she has directed over 100 musicals, led numerous concerts, and achieved recognition both locally and nationally for her contributions to music education. Watters has been actively involved in various music and arts associations and influenced thousands of students in the state of Georgia."
Dr. Watters was visited today and celebrated by Assistant Superintendent Sket Angland and Strategic Initiatives & Communications Director Brian Hall in front of her Choral class. Mrs. Angland shared to the students how proud Gordon County Schools is of the program and what a fantastic educator Dr. Watters is for her many years of service and care for students.
