Gordon Central High School and Ashworth Middle School recently partnered to host their first CTAE Pathway Experience. Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education focuses on guiding students toward hands-on learning experiences that will help them decide their future career by completing a “Pathway” prior to graduation. Led by Gordon Central’s CTAE Department Chair, Mr. Chris Stephens, this 8th grade walkthrough of career pathway opportunities showcased high school programs and local community industries.
Stephens, Gordon Central’s audio/video production teacher, explained the event’s importance helping students make “connections between the skills that are learned in the CTAE classes and the potential careers that they can lead to. This event was a great way to start making those connections.”
Instead of touring the high school, pathway classes came to Ashworth in stations for students to participate hands-on with learning activities and games while learning more about the CTAE programs and their teachers. High schoolers from different pathways (automotive, construction, education, JROTC, healthcare, video production, theater, and agriculture) shared their experiences while getting to know the rising freshmen.
8th grade students learned about career opportunities from community supporters, business leaders, and employers. Kyle Kittle, Director of Facilities & Engineering at Hamilton Medical Center, said working with the schools helps find great recruits to hire and retain. “It is great getting to come in and meet with students because they are our future workforce.”
Gordon County Schools appreciates the partnerships of these educational allies who took the time to make connections with students and guide them toward industry-related fields.
