Bo Dooley at Gordon Central High School Receives Industry Certification from GADOE and Nonprofit Construction Ready, Recognizing Their Efforts to Educate Students in the Skilled Trades
Calhoun, January 24, 2024 -- Bo Dooley at Gordon Central High School has earned Industry Certification for the Construction program from the combined partnership of Construction Ready, a Georgia nonprofit focused on educating young people about careers in the skilled trades, and the Georgia Department of Education. This certification recognizes Bo Dooley’s efforts to educate his students about career opportunities in the industry. To achieve this distinction, the instructor not only had to plan and teach stellar lessons, but also had to build lasting relationships with local business and industry partners, who in turn, provided hands-on opportunities for the students. As part of the certification process, the instructor is required to provide evidence that the program has an active local advisory committee, a career and technical student organization (SkillsUSA). Further, the instructor must provide students with the opportunity to receive an industry recognized credential, and the instructor must demonstrate the commitment to grow professionally by attending professional development workshops provided by GADOE.
The industry certification process is a stamp of excellence on the program and is a testament to the program’s quality. The Georgia Department of Education is committed to this process as it is a direct benefit for the students, the schools, and the community. Ultimately, schools that pursue this distinction are committed to improving student preparation and ensuring that Georgia’s workforce meets the demands of the 21st century.
For their efforts, the certified program will receive a grant to purchase tools and equipment from the Georgia legislature. After initial certification, the program will undergo a renewal process every 5 years.
