CALHOUN, GA – During the December board meeting, the Gordon County Schools Board of Education voted to approve revisions to the 2024-2025 academic calendar. Superintendent Alice Mashburn, after consulting with various advisory councils, recommended the following adjustments:
- The inclusion of four early student release/conference days on September 18th and 19th, and March 19th and 20th.
- Two additional Student at Home Learning Days/PL Days for Teachers on November 1st and May 2nd.
- Early student release days on the last day of each semester, December 20th and May 23rd, for all Gordon County Schools students.
- The first pre-planning day for staff has been shifted to July 31st, moving from the original date of August 1st.
Aligned with changes made in the 2023-24 calendar, these modifications serve specific purposes:
- The four additional early release/conference days facilitate parent-teacher conferences, enhancing communication and transparency.
- The two extra “at Home Learning Days” provide additional support for GCS educators to plan quality instruction and allow students to catch up on assignments.
Continuing the practice from the 2023-24 school year, elementary school students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM, and middle and high school students at 12:30 PM on early release days. For elementary school parents requiring afterschool care, GCS will continue to offer a special rate for the Afterschool Program on early release days.
The unanimous approval of the recommendation by the Gordon County Schools Board of Education reflects a collaborative decision to enhance the academic calendar for the benefit of students, teachers, and parents.
