GORDON COUNTY, GA – Gordon County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Amy Beason as the new Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Director, effective January 2024. Ms. Beason brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, and we are confident in her ability to lead our ESS department to new heights. 

With a career spanning back to 1999, Ms. Beason has held various roles in the field of education, including positions as an educator, assistant principal, principal, and assistant director of special education. She brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Ms. Beason holds an Ed. S. in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University, another Ed. S. in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College, and a bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University. This diverse educational background, combined with her extensive professional experience, uniquely qualifies her to oversee the multifaceted needs of exceptional student services. 

Ms. Beason is committed to fostering cooperation among educators, parents, and community stakeholders, aiming to establish an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Her dedication mirrors her personal vision of delivering a quality education to all students within the Gordon County Schools community. 

In her new role, Ms. Beason will lead a comprehensive suite of services for students with disabilities in Gordon County Schools, overseeing school psychologists, therapists, interpreters, technology support, and various educational professionals. She will prioritize collaboration between general and special education teachers, implementing effective coteaching models and paraprofessional assistance. Ms. Beason's commitment extends to the formulation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) addressing students' unique needs, promoting advancement and readiness for graduation, employment, post-secondary education, and independent living.

 In addition to the announcement of Ms. Beason's appointment, Gordon County Schools extends heartfelt gratitude to the retiring ESS Director, Ms. Alecia Segursky. Having been an integral part of our organization since 1995, Ms. Segursky assumed the role of Assistant Special Education Director in 2006 and was subsequently appointed as the Director of Special Education in 2017. Her unwavering dedication to the students and families served by ESS has made a lasting impact on our community.

Under Ms. Segursky's leadership, Gordon County Schools achieved numerous milestones and accolades for its commitment to exceptional student services. Her tireless efforts, innovative initiatives, and unwavering advocacy have set a high standard for the ESS department.

Gordon County Schools looks forward to a promising future guided by Ms. Beason's leadership. We are confident that her direction will ensure the continued success and positive impact of the ESS department on the lives of the exceptional students we serve.
