GORDON COUNTY, GA - Gordon County Schools (GCS) proudly announces an outstanding graduation rate, with an impressive 96.7% of the Class of 2023 successfully earning their diplomas within four years of entering high school. This achievement places GCS among an exclusive group, as one of only twenty-six school districts in the state of Georgia to achieve a graduation rate at or above 96%.
Sonoraville High School reported a top graduation rate of 97%, closely followed by Gordon Central High School with an impressive rate of 96.5%.
Gordon County Schools' graduation rate significantly surpasses the State of Georgia's Class of 2023 average, standing at 84.4%, by an impressive margin of 12.3 percentage points. This milestone is based on the most recent report released by the Georgia Department of Education, in compliance with federal law, which calculates graduation rates using a four-year cohort method.
The four-year cohort method follows a student cohort from the start of ninth grade, adjusting for transfers in and out over the following three years. The graduation rate is then determined by the number of students who successfully graduate with a regular high school diploma, divided by the total number of students who constituted the adjusted cohort for the graduating class. Over the last decade, Gordon County Schools has exhibited an extraordinary increase in graduation rates, surging over 14 percentage points since the state transitioned to the cohort model.
"As the Superintendent of Gordon County Schools, I am elated to celebrate our exceptional graduation rates. The Class of 2023 has demonstrated their unwavering commitment to excellence, and our dedicated educators, parents, and the entire community have played a pivotal role in their success. Our students are not just earning diplomas; they are forging brighter futures. We take immense pride in these achievements, and we remain steadfast in our mission to grow, empower, and transform every student for a lifetime of success," stated Alice Mashburn, Superintendent of Gordon County Schools.
GCS takes immense pride in its continued dedication to academic excellence, fostering an environment where students are empowered to reach their full potential, exemplified by the exceptional graduation rates achieved.
