Dr. Bill McCown, Superintendent

The Gordon County Board of Education is pleased to provide this website as a source of information for our students and parents and persons interested in our school system. The Gordon County School System is a system of nine schools. There are five elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools.

The Gordon County Board of Education is proud to announce the newest school, Sonoraville High School. Sonoraville High School will be open with a ninth and a tenth grade class in 2005-06. In 2006-07 an eleventh grade class will be added and 2007-08 will be the first graduating class form Sonoraville High School.

Our schools are serious about the business of educating our children. We measure our effectiveness through the three R's: Rigor, Relevance and Relationships. It is our mission to provide RIGOR in our curriculum and programs. We wish to challenge each and every learner in their classrooms everyday to be successful learners.

Our school district insures that our children's lessons are RELEVANT . During 2005-06 the Gordon County Schools will begin to implement the New Georgia Performance Standards. These standards have been designed to provide instruction which will prepare our students to transition into adulthood better prepared than past generations.

Perhaps our school district's most important duty is to enhance the relationship between teacher and learner. Every program and service that the Gordon County School System provides is designed to enhance that RELATIONSHIP .
