Driver Education Program


Gordon County Schools Community Education will be offering drivers education classes on the following dates.

Next Available Classes

Gordon Central- 3:30 to 7:30 pm - September 13, 14,15,16,20,21,22,23.

Sonoraville- 3:30 to 7:30 pm - November 15,16,17,18,22,23,29,30.

Class size is limited so early registration is recommended. A non refundable deposit of $50.00 will reserve a space in a class Classes may be combined, depending on the actual number of students that request the classes. Students must have their learner’s permit by the first day of class. 30 hours of classroom instruction is required – make sure you can attend all class days before registering for a class.

Students may pick up and return applications to Nancy Thompson at Gordon Central and Jessica Pulliam at Sonoraville High.

During the school year, driver education classes will be offered at Gordon Central High School and Sonoraville High School on a rotating schedule. Classes are only for students enrolled at the school where the classes are held or area home-schooled students. Students will need to bring paper and pencil to each class. A wire bound notebook is recommended.

  • 8 Days (30 hours of classroom time)
  • An additional 6 hours behind-the-wheel training scheduled outside of class time
  • Cost: $ 250 (Make checks payable to: Gordon County BOE - Community Education)
  • Space for each class is limited. 
  • $50 deposit reserves a space in a class. (The balance is due on or before the first class meeting.)

This course is a certified Georgia Department of Driver Services driver education class for meeting the requirements of Joshua's Law and for insurance reduction (see your insurance agent concerning insurance issues.) You may also be eligible for a tax credit of $ 150 on your Georgia Income Tax .


 Joshua's Law: To get a Class D driver's license at age sixteen (16), a student must have completed a driver education course approved by the Department of Driver Services. If a student has NOT completed an approved DDS course, he/she cannot get a Class D license until they reach age seventeen (17).
