Gordon County announces its 2009-2010 teacher of the year, Deborah Waters.
Deborah Pinyan Waters has always called Fairmount home. She was the valedictorian of Fairmount High School's Class of 1982 and graduated from West GA College in 1993. She earned a Master's Degree in 2002 and a Specialist Degree in 2006 from Piedmont College.
Twenty-three years of her life has been devoted to her love of teaching. For five years she worked as a paraprofessional at FES before pursuing her teaching degree. Mrs. Waters has previously taught Title 1 Math, Kindergarten, and First Grade. For the past seven years she has instructed fourth grade students in the subject of math.
Mrs. Waters is a native of the Fairmount area and continues to live in the Ryo Community on the Eastern side of Gordon County. She is married to Gary Waters, and they have two sons and daughters-in-law. Her son Matthew teaches Agriculture at Sonoraville Middle School and is married to Katy Waters who is an interventionist at Fairmount Elementary. Stephen, her youngest son, is married to Jessica Waters who is currently completing student teaching at Belwood.
