School improvement and accountability are federally mandated requirements of the Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) – formerly NCLB. The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) submitted to the U.S. Department of Education (US ED) an application requesting flexibility through waivers of ten ESEA requirements and their associated, regulatory, administrative and reporting requirements. On February 9, 2012, Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver was approved by the US ED.

The GaDOE ESEA flexibility waiver outlines Georgia’s new Single Statewide Accountability System, the College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI). The CCRPI will serve as a comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia. The GaDOE transitioned from needs improvement (NI) distinctions based on adequate yearly progress (AYP) reports to Reward, Priority, and Focus Schools distinctions based on CCRPI formulas and scores. Schools will now implement specific programs and interventions based on Priority and Focus school status. CCRPI scores for all schools can be found at the link below.

The school improvement process for Gordon County Schools utilizes a data-driven, research-based framework to set academic goals and objectives for improving student learning. School teams study several types of data annually to develop goals and implement strategies to improve the instructional and organizational effectiveness of their respective schools.

District Strategic Plan

The district maintains a District Strategic Plan based on comprehensive goals that drive the strategic planning and instructional decisions for the system. The Goals and Implementation Strategies are developed in collaboration with parents, community members, and business partners.   http://www.gcbe.org/?DivisionID=14254&DepartmentID=22799

District Goals

Goal I: All Gordon County Schools’ students will increase academic achievement in Pre-K through 12th grade through the use of data-driven decision-making and instruction that ensures a rigorous, collaborative, engaging learning environment that is both safe and nurturing.

Goal II: Highly-qualified personnel with appropriate education and/or workforce experience will be attracted and retained and will be provided professional learning to create an educational environment to foster quality work for student engagement.

Goal III: Gordon County Schools’ students who complete high school will be college and career ready.

School Improvement Plans

Each school’s School Improvement Plan (SIP) and goals reflect the district goals and individual school needs. School goals address all content areas measured by CCRPI and are defined as a Charter System.

Gordon County Schools is committed to sustaining an atmosphere of constant and ongoing school improvement through research based practices and utilization of the new standards. Data driven school improvement is essential to student achievement and increased standardized test scores.
